We won the Lotto!

So after a very busy day running around, I was getting the supper dishes washed up, and then James remembered that he hadn't scratched his Casino Royale Scratch and Win ticket that I got him for Father's Day. He wanted the girls to scratch it for good luck. So just before we gave them a bath he gave it to Alex and Rachel. The girls got all excited that they had won $3.00. Because they saw three 3s in one box thinking that 3 items of the same thing won (like the usual lotto tickets). So James studies it and starts getting REALLY excited. He proclaims, "I THINK WE WON $7000!!!!!". I still didn't believe it and continued with the dishes. Then he calls me over all excited to look it over. And lo and behold we had 2 Queens which beat out the 17 of the dealer's hand. Holy Moly all of us were jumping up and down. Then we all got dressed and (screw the bath!) we got ready to go and check it out at the SuperMarket lottery centre! Then James stops all of us and says that he's heard of clerks ripping people off with their winning tickets so he sat down to write his name and address on the back of the winning ticket!!!!! He even signed the ticket! It was ALL OURS baby! So we drive to Save On - the closest supermarket AND the place I had bought it from. We RUN in and guess what? The booth was friggin CLOSED and the scanner machine was out of service. SHIT! And the other scanner machine in the mall was closed off with rope since the mall was closed. So we get back in the car - think think think - where else can we go? Even Sophia was laughing and acting hyper. We were EXCITED people! So we end up at the Chevron gas station and I run in to ask if they have the scanner machine. The clerk says YES so I motion for the gang to come in. We all crowd around the machine and we finally get the laser to scan the ticket!!!!!!! And guess what it says?!!!!

Sorry, not a winner. What?!!!! We scan it 2 more times. Then James exclaims that it must be broken. So we read the scanner machine and it says that if it has a red checkmark logo on the ticket that the scanner is accurate. So we scour the ticket and we find the red checkmark logo. We are confused people!!! Because 2 Queens definitely beats out 17!!! Right? We get back into the car, Alex tells us that maybe if we try tomorrow we will win the money. I tell the girls to SHUSH because mama and papa need to figure this out. We re read and re read the damn rules. And then realize that the game isn't BlackJack it is POKER!!!! HA HA HA on us! We belly laughed so hard at ourselves it wasn't even funny! We were so disappointed! And exhausted. The emotions were so exhausting. The highs the lows! hahaha

Anyhow it was an exciting end to our day. We still laugh at ourselves. We were even arguing about if we would have to drive to Kamloops on Monday to pick up our winnings or else send it in by courier, etc....I though for sure we would drive the 2 1/2 hours to pick up our cheque! Papa thought that we would courier the ticket. etc.... I even had greedy thoughts like, "Oh I should have scratched that ticket this week and if I had won that $7000 I could have put it in my bank account and have been super duper RICH and Papa wouldn't even know!" Isn't that so greedy and bad that I had those fleeting thoughts?!! And we even argued about what we were going to spend it on. I have wanted to get the girls new furniture for the longest time but it seems like such a waste of money. We had gotten them these cheap laminate beds from Walmart 4 years ago and they are falling apart. I keep looking on Pottery Barn but get scared off by the prices. So I naturally thought that we could spend some money on the kids' room. Papa wanted to pay our municipal taxes with the money. And then he went on and on about other things that we have to pay for soon. All of this arguing, debating, stress, excitement in a matter of 30 minutes! What would happen if we actually WON the million dollars. The arguing/debating would be ENDLESS. haha. See people...MONEY IS EVIL!

Elmo Biking Surprise Party!

Yesterday morning when I woke up I was feeling blah and was even trying to convince the girls that we could play hookie and go and spend the entire day playing board games. Alex thought it was a good idea but Rachel insisted that she go to school. So then I snapped out of my mood and realized yeah I guess it wasn't such a good idea to pull them out to play games all day.

Sophia's birthday is 4 days after the twins and it seemed kind of crazy to invite the same friends from last weekend over and ask them to, yet again, buy one of our kids another gift. So we didn't plan anything for her birthday. The girls kept making me feel guilty over this. Asking questions (So you are not suppose to have a party when you turn 2? Then how come so and so did? etc...) and making comments about the decorations that I had put around the house using old leftovers from previous years (How come you put Barbie tablecloth on the table? If I was the mama I would have put Dora because Sophia doesn't even know Barbie.) Jeesh the commentary was hilarious. I thought if I put up a couple of balloons, and some past year decorations around the table and have cake after dinner that would be fun for Sophia. To be more precise, Papa didn't want to have a party and have tons of people over. But to his SURPRISE I threw a quickie party that was planned in literally 2 hours. He came home from work to a house full of kids. haha! He ended up having fun. We all did.
It was an Elmo theme party. We went to Safeway and Sophia picked out her Elmo balloon (even though she is scared of watching Elmo on TV!) and then off to the dollar store where she picked out Elmo plates and napkins. It was just as much fun buying the stuff with Sophia as the party itself. She was so excited.

I asked all the mamas to bring their bikes and helmets for the party. The kids rode around in the street. All 10 of them! It was quite the busy road.

The OMG it's so sweet cake. You know the kind you get at a kids' party. I offered Kaili some and she refused to take it home. haha.
Sophia LOVED everyone singing to her. She has re-watched the video we took last night so many times already this morning.
She was getting tired but was still very into opening her gifts. Jeesh the gifts that I felt badly that people had to buy. But everyone had called me earlier to tell me they had a gift already for Sophia that they wanted to drop off.
The cute kiddies.
We all had a great time with our friends celebrating lovely Sophia's 2nd birthday party.
