Cherries, Sticky Buns & Delicious Strawberries

It's cherry season once again and the cherries are absolutely delicious. They are so plump and juicy and you can't just stop eating only a handful. And they were locally grown but very expensive. I paid $3.99 a pound so my bunch of cherries cost over 12 bucks! I think it's because it's the start of the season and the price will come down as more cherries are available. I don't mind paying for them though considering what happened to us when we got our cherries for 'free' a couple of years ago. My mom was visiting us and she saw that a neighbor of ours had posted a sign 'free cherries' by their cherry tree. So she went with a big container and picked lots and lots of cherries. After we had been eating them up for a couple of days I noticed after I bit into one of mine that there was a worm in it. We checked a couple more and yup, they had worms. Needless to say I was totally freaked out and have only recently recovered enough to start eating cherries again.
Sticky Buns....yum. Or shall I say stinky bums as we like to jokingly call them. This is one of the main reasons that we wake up on Saturday morning and hurry down to the Farmer's market. It's made by this organic bakery and it is so so good. Not too sweet either. Alex just adores them and almost ate one whole one by herself this morning. We also love their mini pizzas (especially Rachel) but we don't have a picture to show you because we ended up eating it all up. In addition to this we buy organic coffee there, cookies, etc... so no wonder the girls get excited to go there. We also found these absolutely delicious organic strawberries there today. We bought so many flats of them. Sweet & juicy. Whenever it's strawberry season and we are eating these perfect strawberries we wonder how we can ever buy the store bought huge tasteless ones. They just aren't the same!So a very successful trip to the market this morning. Wonder what treasures we will find next week!

Mid June 2007

I've updated my blog today since Halmoni was asking/demanding me where pictures of her grandkids were. Not much is new with us. Preschool will finish next week and then it will officially be summer.

The girls always crack me up. Alex told me a funny story after school. There is this boy named Kaleb in their class. He's 2 years older than the girls and he's the funny guy in the class. Rachel seems to be really 'interested' in him. Anyhow, Alex says to me that Kaleb said,
"If Rachel tickles me again, I'm going to throw her in the garbage". Both girls think that this statement by Kaleb is so funny and they both start giggling again. So I turn to Rachel and ask her if she was tickling Kaleb. She looks shy and nods YES. I think this is only the beginning of Rachel's flirtations but at least I have Alex there to tell me what's going on.

My kids are a great escape from the stresses of life. Their world is so innocent and fun. So when I feel like my head is going to explode from thinking/feeling too much, I take a deep breath and concentrate on the kids. It's a world full of princesses (they play dress up each and every single day), music (they sing/hum fun songs), games (they re-enact their favorite scenes from the Disney movies), and they build castles & cameras, etc... with Mega Blocs. Oh and how could I forget the hours upon hours that we spend coloring together. And the worst thing that could happen to them is that it is their sister's turn to have the red hair. And by red hair I mean the pink skirt that they insist on putting on top of their head and pretending that they are Ariel from the movie, Little Mermaid. Here is a photos of the kids with the red hair on.

Funny thing is that Rachel has the red hair 99% of the time. But when Alex finally gets her turn at the red hair it's short and sweet. Because Rachel is soooooo sad that she doesn't have the red hair and Alex hands it right back to Rachel even if she only had it for a couple of minutes. Anyone out there who can sew another red hair for us to stop the battles?
