Thank goodness Rachel got an encouragement award from the Kiwanis Music Festival this year. I say Thank Goodness because Alex got it last year. And the girls keep mental track of these things.
And we went to Dairy Queen to celebrate afterwards. Just like last year. ha ha. The only funny thing this year is that we had to pay a family entrance fee to the awards ceremony. We paid $33 to get in. And Rachel won $25. James and I laughed about that.

He was SO perfectly perfect
So....on the flight back from Montreal, I sat in the aisle. My three kids were in the three seats across from the aisle. They were really well behaved but that is totally off topic. Beside me was a really elderly lady. And by the window was this guy about my age.
Anyhow I just thought that they were son and mother. He was SO sweet to this old lady. Constantly pressing the button to turn the light on for her (when she wanted to do her crossword puzzle) and then turn off the light when she fell asleep (which seemed like it was every 10 minutes). Sweet, eh?
Also, when this old lady finished her drink he took her plastic cup and dirty napkins and placed it on his tray so her tray was clean and she could continue to do her crossword puzzle. I thought, How nice! I do that for my own kids and he is doing now for his mom.
Then about half way through the flight the lady touches my arm to speak to me. I thought that she wanted help to get earphones and watch a movie. It turns out that she needs to get up and use the washroom. While we are talking the guy takes out his earphones and asks what is the matter. The lady can not get up by herself and walk by herself to the washroom. Him and I both lift her out of the chair and he walks her to the washroom. Meanwhile I figure out that they are complete strangers too. He is just a genuinely nice man who is helping this lady.
So I check to see if he has a wedding ring on.. and he doesn't. Awesome. And he is quite fit and athletic looking now that he is out of the chair and I can see him. Also, we strike up a conversation that he is the VP of 1-800-Got-Junk. He is wearing one of their golf shirts. So I'm thinking, wow, he sure is passionate about his work since he wears the company logo out on the flight. All good points so far for him.
Then back at my seat, I'm thinking he is SO perfect that I want to set him up with my good friend's younger sister. But I don't have the guts to bring this subject up. I don't even know his name. We get off the flight and that's it.
I was telling my friend about this perfect guy for her sister when I get back home. We get excited and we google Got-Junk VP. We find out his name. OMG this is so exciting. I looked for him on Facebook and couldn't find him so I went to LinkedIn and found him. Even more exciting. Then I asked him if we could be connected on LinkedIn. And later that night, we were connected. My friend and I were planning our next email move. What should I write? Should I tell him that I was so impressed with how he handled this old lady and that he has a good heart and I want to set him up with his future bride? No that would be so direct. Too much pressure so I didn't write an email at all.
Then late last night I went looking for him back on Facebook. And lo and behold I found him! He lives in Vancouver. Check. His banner picture is him hiking in the mountains with a beautiful dog. Check. No girlfriend photo in sight. Check. Then I start reading his postings....he is SO kind. He posted a picture his sponsored 8 year old child from Bangladesh drew for him. OMG he is perfect. He has a sense of humor, good looking, outdoorsy, etc...
Then I notice a lot of pictures of him and another guy. OK maybe he is his BFF? But then there was a photo of them together, arms around each other by the Christmas tree, wishing everyone a Happy Christmas. What?!!!! After going through more pictures and his postings...he is 1000% gay. Oh jeesh. James was laughing his head off at me. He thought that this guy was probably a serial killer. Nope, just perfectly perfect but gay.
I've come to the conclusion that I have to stop trying to set people up.
